Durumi to witness massive demolition soon

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Tuesday, advised owners of illegal shops and other buildings in the notorious areas of Durumi District to start parking their belongings as it set to embark on massive cleanup of the area soon.

Mr Ikharo Attah, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, disclosed this to journalists when he led the task force on city sanitation to Karsana District of Abuja for a cleanup exercise.

He said the cleanup at Durumi would be massive and would involve all the security agencies in the FCT, including the AEPB, FEMA and the Department of Development Control.

He said, “The biggest area is the Durumi community. Durumi has so many shanties and monkey villages, and the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, at the recent FCT executive meeting, gave a matching order that all forms of dangerous illegalities around Durumi should be removed.”

He further said, “The FCTA is coming massively to clean the Durumi community; and they should be ready, so that Durumi would be safe for everyone around. If they choose not to move, the machines will move them. We will keep on coming to remove all illegalities in Abuja. We are still going to the Kado and Utako areas; it is a daily work.”
