The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has announced it will work with the Nigerian government through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to identify ICT start-ups in the country in order to help grow local entrepreneurship into global technology players.
The DWTC’s Director of Sales Exhibitions and Events Management, Mr. Bilal Al-Rais, who attended the just concluded eNigeria conference and exhibition at the instance of the NITDA made this announcement to the media during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Mrs. Uju Hassan-Baba, in Abuja.
“I’m in the country to attend the eNigeria conference organized by the NITDA and also explore further opportunities with other stakeholders.  As you may be aware, the Dubai World Trade Centre is the organisers of the fastest growing large-scale ICT exhibition in the world called Gitex Technology Week and Nigeria’s participation has steadily been growing in value through the efforts of Mr. Peter Jack and his team at the NITDA.
“We are mandated by the Government of Dubai to focus on ICT start-ups on a global level and we have an outreach programme dedicated to identifying who these fantastic start-ups are.  Under this programme, we are scouting for the start-ups in Nigeria to enable us to put forward investors to them and provide them with mentorship in a variety of incubation zones. I have been talking to a lot of startups at the ongoing eNigeria conference and I believe that there are a lot of fantastic solutions that could make it in the global marketplace”, said Al Rais. 
While responding, Hassan-Baba said the NIPC will welcome every opportunity geared at achieving the Commission’s goals for investment even as she stated that the NIPC was able to leverage on its participation at the 2015 GITEX to open talks with prospective investors into Nigeria.
