E-Schools Africa Initiative, a package by 3rd Base Technologies Ltd, Nigeria & Emperion Middle East and Africa, is a scheme designed to enhance computer penetration and the use of Information Technologies in schools in Africa.
In his speech during the closing ceremony, the Executive Director, 3rd Base Technologies Ltd, Nigeria, Brigadier General Abel Ani (Rtd) an engineer, stressed that the scheme seeks to network secondary schools in Nigeria with other African countries through ICT infrastructure.
“This scheme provides fully functional computer laboratories equipped with high speed broadband internet access to schools through a grant to enable the schools join a networked community of online schools in the scheme known as the e-Schools Africa Network for exchange of educational resources and cultural values,” Ani said.
General Ani in an interview told reporters that the idea of the project is to encourage networking in schools and to empower secondary schools students at the early age with computer penetration.
The school initiative is been implemented in 13 selected African countries including Nigeria.
He stated that they have through the initiative reached 104 unity schools in the country and advised state governments and private secondary schools all over the country to key into the scheme.
