Speaking to Trustsports in an exclusive interview at the end of their first training season at the Abuja National Stadium, the Olympic Marseille defender said with the new coach in charge of the team, the defence will make Nigerians proud by making it difficult for opponents to score goals.

According to the Olympics silver medallist, the defenders have gained more experience and have learnt from their mistakes in Angola, nothing that at the World Cup the defenders that will be selected at the end of the day will not disappoint Nigerians.

Asked if he and his colleague have what it takes to contain Messi, Anguero, Higguain and other predatory strikers they will meet in South Africa, Taiwo said it takes a team to defend very well, adding that they are not afraid of any player.

“They are playing in big team in Europe, just like us, we are playing in big clubs too. If we play as a team, then it will be very easy to handle any striker in the World. But if the team plays badly, then it becomes very difficult for defenders to be effective,” Taiwo said.
