The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has concluded its high-level retreat for Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima urging stronger interagency collaboration to build a more business-friendly Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by the Director General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, the Vice President while speaking at the end of the retreat on Thursday, emphasised the importance of synergy, innovation, and measurable progress in government service delivery. He highlighted that effective collaboration and mutual accountability among MDAs are crucial to delivering impactful reforms that would improve the ease of doing business in the country.

“Trust is the most valuable currency in governance. Without it, no reform can endure,” Shettima said, urging agencies to prioritise joint planning, share data, and adopt common Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enhance efficiency.

He also advocated for the streamlining of processes, elimination of duplication, and the deployment of technology to boost transparency and reduce turnaround times for public services. “Our citizens should not be trapped in bureaucratic bottlenecks when accessing government services,” he noted.

To this end, the Vice President encouraged the formation of interagency task teams to drive critical reforms, foster dialogue in resolving conflicts, and ensure sustainable progress through innovation.

The retreat also saw the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume and the Vice President commending the Director-General of PEBEC for her dedication and performance.

The DG, therefore, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to working closely with heads of agencies to elevate service delivery standards across the board.

The retreat is a key part of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s business environment, in line with PEBEC’s mandate to remove bureaucratic constraints and support private sector growth.
