The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s current challenges, saying the Easter season serves as a reminder that difficult times can give way to renewal and progress.

In an Easter message signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN said the resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolises hope, restoration, and the possibility of a fresh start, even in the face of hardship.

The association noted that many Nigerians were currently grappling with insecurity, economic difficulties, and uncertainty, with families feeling anxious and, in some cases, unsafe.

It acknowledged that hope may appear to be fading for some citizens but stressed that Easter’s message makes it clear that “this is not the end.”

CAN encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast, emphasising that the nation can overcome its present struggles through collective resolve and unity.

Addressing political leaders, the association described the current period as a “test of purpose,” urging those in authority to demonstrate genuine leadership through action, empathy, and visible efforts to improve the lives of citizens.

For the Church, CAN said this is a critical moment to remain resolute and provide guidance, noting that people are searching for hope and direction in uncertain times. It called on religious institutions to stand with the vulnerable and help inspire confidence in a better future.

The association also appealed to citizens to resist division and fear, urging them instead to embrace unity, courage, and mutual support. It warned that while hardship can create divisions, it also presents an opportunity for Nigerians to come together and strengthen national cohesion.

“Easter is more than a celebration; it is a decision,” the statement said, calling on Nigerians to rise above their differences and work collectively to address the country’s challenges.

CAN expressed optimism that with unity and shared commitment, Nigeria can overcome its difficulties and move towards a more hopeful future.

The association concluded by praying for the nation and wishing Nigerians a peaceful and hopeful Easter celebration.
