The movie chronicles the life of President Jonathan from being born on November 20, 1957 which was the day then premier of Nigeria’s Eastern Region, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, visited his community, hence the name Azikiwe.
According to Kolade Oludare Success, producer of the movie, the idea behind the project was not to make money but to make history. “It is the first time in Nigeria’s history that a movie has been made in honour of any of our presidents,” he said.
The movie producer, who visited Jonathan’s hometown, Otuoke to interview his uncle, said he also gathered information from the president’s alma mater, the University of Port Harcourt and the Bayelsa State Culture and Tourism Ministry.
Amadi, whose first Nollywood movie is ‘Evil Village,’ said he got the role after auditioning.
“I went for the auditioning early this year and was happy to be called back having landed the role. I won’t say I was optimistic I would get the role because there were so many other people angling for it as well,” the 24 year-old said.
On if he had a chance to interact with the president and ask him about his life to give more insight into Jonathan’s life to enable him represent that more accurately, he said: “I didn’t have a chance to interact with the president personally. I acted based on things I read about him.”
