The Ebira people of Kogi State resident in Lagos now have a new king. The monarch, who goes by the traditional title Ohinoyi Anebira, Lagos State, His Royal Highness Sir Isiaka Yussuf, was installed recently in the Alagbado area of the state.
Yussuf was elected the leader of the Ebira people in Lagos State in 2003 after he defeated his opponent, Mr. Oziada Ogirima, but could not be installed until now as the defeated aspirant went to a Lagos High Court to challenge the victory.
The President, Ebira Community Association of Lagos State (ECA), Chief Salawu Obiana explained further: “The court’s order that we should crown Yussuf was due to the unfortunate death of the plaintiff, Ogirima, in April, 2015; though this seriously saddened the entire Ebira community irrespective of the controversy.”
The new king, who now has several other Ebira chiefs from each local government in Lagos State under his jurisdiction, advocated the unity of all Ebira indigenes in Lagos as he charged them to always obey Lagos laws so as to also contribute to the development of the state.
After the traditional rites performed by the Ohinoyi, Alimosho Local Government, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Ahmad, the turbaning activities was carried out by the Chief Imam, Alh Khalifah Mustapha Ibrahim, who also enjoined the Kogi people to support the incumbent governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the development of the state.
Also speaking, the Asiwaju of Ebira Community, Osodi/Isolo Local Government, Chief Yahaya Daniya, described the new Ohinoyi Anebira, Lagos State as someone with leadership qualities, and enjoined all Ebira people in Lagos State to support him.
