The Ebira People Association (EPA), under the leadership of Pharmacist Mahmoud Odidi Ozigi, has empowered some members of the association with a capital to start up businesses in order to be self-reliant.
The EPA chairman said the empowerment programme was in fulfilment of his campaign promises when he was contesting for the office.
“During my campaign for the office of EPA chairman, I promised that I would focus on two issues, that is the unity of my people and empowerment. And the empowerment, I said I wanted to start with women, and I will go for women, then women and any other person else,” he said.
“Today we are empowering 50 persons, 40 women and 10 men, and we hope to double the number next time. These women are not just women, but they are widows who have to take care of some children left by their husbands, and we have many of them around,” he added
In his remark, the Ebira Traditional Ruler in charge of Kano and Jigawa states, Ohinoya of Ebira, Alhaji Aliyu Abdulmalik, thanked the leadership of the association for the gesture and called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money given to them.
He then called on the youth not to sacrifice themselves to be used by some politicians just to achieve their political ambition.
One of the beneficiaries, Aishatu B. Abubakar, expressed her gratitude to the Ebira Community Association for the empowerment which she said she will use to start vegetable business.
