The National President, AWDROP, Engr. Michael Ale, disclosed this at the end of the association’s annual General conference held at the National Water Resources Institute (NWRI), Kaduna.
While insisting that the only preventive measure against Ebola virus disease is to wash hands with clean water, Engr. Ale noted with concern that more untold pressure will be meted on the scarce water resources in many parts of the country, “hence water is then at the risk of pollution and abstraction because of the demand posed by the deadly Ebola virus.”
In a statement issued over the weekend, Engr. Ale urged the government at all levels to support AWDROP members to drill more boreholes in different health centres in order to assist health practitioners and patients.
He also directed all the state executive members of the association to monitor all water projects in their domain to avoid failure and ensure that borehole projects work to their capacity through rehabilitation and cooperation with the state governments.
Ale, however, raised an alarm over the state of water projects in Nigeria noting with concern that many public infrastructures being executed by different ministries and parastatals across the country have faced years of neglect as a result of several factors including lack of proper coordination among sectors and lack of management by the concerned citizens.
According to him, AWDROP had come to this conclusion going by the current pilot study of water infrastructures in the country conducted by the association.
