President Jonathan has said Nigeria will keep its alert high on Ebola virus disease, 22 days after it was imported into the country.

Speaking in Abuja, the president said, “We must remain at high alert.”

His warning came ahead of an emergency meeting of health commissioners in the national council on health to discuss nationwide strategy and individual state preparedness for Ebola.

The president urged Nigerians not to allow paranoia take root.

It was “important to avoid panic,” he said, calling for “highest care in hygiene and contact.”

He added, “It is regrettable that the emergence of Ebola on our shores was due to migration” in reference to American Liberian Patrick Sawyer’s entry into the country late July after evading authorities in Monrovia.
