NLC president, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Rain School training workshop in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, lamented the spate of the outbreak of the disease in the sub-region.
He said that only Ghana was able to attend the programme out of the countries invited there.
According to him, NLC wrote the countries to stay away having earlier extended invitations to them.
“We asked them to stay back because we don’t want to scare the larger crowd. We also hope the government and all the stakeholders in the medical profession and the international community will do their best to contain the spread of the disease so that the human race will be spared the fear and havoc associated with the spread of the dreaded virus by finding a cure for it,” he said.
The NLC President who spoke on the state of the nation said this year’s Rain School, which was the 12th in the series was themed, “Inequality and Socio-Political Instability: Issues and Challenges for the Working Class” in order to proffer solution to the myriad of problems facing the nation.
