Ebonyi State, on Sunday, recorded its first case of coronavirus.

The state governor, David Umahi, made this known on Sunday night.

He said the new case came into the state from Ondo State.

“Today, the 26 April, 2020, I wish to announce that Ebonyi State has recorded its first case of COVID-19.

“The carrier is a 21 years old man from Ukwu in Onicha local government area of the state.

“He is a commercial bus driver who specializes in conveying people from Ondo to the Southeast.

Umahi added that test, which confirmed the patient positive, was conducted at the state township stadium, Abakiliki.

He maintained that the patient passed through Afikpo and Ivo to Ohanzara Local government where he was apprehended and taken to the state township stadium, Abakiliki for the test.

Speaking to Daily Trust on Friday, the state chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Ebonyi state chapter, Dr Egebe John, said that doctors in the were ready to take care of patients of the virus in the state.

He noted that additional 10 ventilators ordered by the state would soon arrive the state to add to the existing four.

Daily Trust observed Friday that two out of four available ventilators were installed at the COVID-19 intensive Care centre, situated at unity square, Abakiliki.
