The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has sealed a strategic deal with RSE Engineering Nigeria Limited to fast-track cogeneration technology across key sectors of the economy.

The pact, signed in Abuja, targets energy security, industrial productivity and Nigeria’s energy transition goals. 

At the signing ceremony, ECN Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, explained that the partnership will deploy combined heat and power systems that let factories generate electricity while capturing waste heat. 

He described it as a major step toward reliable, cost-effective and sustainable energy for industries battling Nigeria’s power deficit.

He added that the partnership reflects ECN’s commitment to leveraging strategic collaborations to drive energy sector transformation, technology transfer, capacity development, and sustainable economic growth.

“Today’s signing marks another significant milestone in the Commission’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy sector through strategic partnerships, innovation, capacity development, research collaboration, and sustainable energy solutions,” he said.

According to him, the partnership aligns with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and supports key national priorities, including energy diversification, improved energy efficiency, enhanced energy access, and reduced carbon emissions.

He noted that the Energy Commission, as the apex government institution responsible for strategic energy planning and policy coordination, recognises that the country’s complex energy challenges require collective action involving government agencies, private sector operators, researchers, investors, and development partners.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of RSE Engineering Nigeria Limited, Ms. Olena Nedryhailo, described the partnership as one that goes beyond technology deployment.

“This MoU is not only about technology. It is about partnership, energy security, industrial development, and creating practical solutions for Nigeria’s future,” she said.

She added that ECN’s recognition of the company’s cogeneration technology validates its potential to deliver reliable electricity, heating, and cooling solutions with significantly higher efficiency and lower emissions than conventional power systems.

“We are proud that ECN recognises the potential of our cogeneration technology to deliver reliable power, cooling, and heating with higher efficiency and lower emissions.

“Together, we aim to support national energy goals, develop local capacity, create jobs, and bring sustainable energy solutions to major projects across Nigeria,” Nedryhailo added.

According to her, the agreement builds on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed with Nigeria’s Ministry of Industry in December 2025 and reflects growing confidence in the technology’s ability to contribute to the country’s energy future.

She disclosed that RSE Engineering’s parent company, based in the Czech Republic, has successfully deployed cogeneration and modular energy systems in several countries, delivering efficient and reliable distributed power generation solutions.

“Our hope is that Nigerians will use these cogeneration systems to build power plants and help solve the electricity challenge in Nigeria. 

“We are here to share Ukrainian and European experience with Nigeria,” she said.
