The assurance was predicated on the commitment of contractors and consultants involved as well as the extent of work done so far.
Sheikh gave the assurance at the end of inspection visits recently to all sites in the 15 soil erosion and flood control projects in the South East Zone.
The inspection, he said, was aimed at “finding out the level of work done, the challenges the contractors are facing and need to obtain firsthand information on what needs to be done to enhance speedy completion and hand over of the projects.”
He commended the quality of job and timely completion of works by the indigenous contractors handling the soil erosion and flood control projects. He also commended the contractors concerned for carrying out additional works such as culverts, access roads and concrete channels in order to safeguard works done and address developing challenges.
Sheikh also assured the people of Nanka and Oko villages that the federal government was seriously seeking a permanent solution to the Nanka landslide erosion problem which over the years has led to the loss of many farmlands and residential buildings.
He commended Anambra State government for removing obstructing structures on the flood plains and pathways and appealed for deployment of environmental control officials to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the channels.
