The President of SEMACO Group and President of AFRICURRENCY, Dr Christian-Shola, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate, describing the project as a positive reflection of Nigeria’s progress and a boost to the country’s international image.

Dr Christian-Shola made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the newly renovated landmark alongside senior Muslim clerics.

He said the facelift of the nation’s capital demonstrated a commitment to development, order and national renewal.

According to the economist, the upgraded entrance to Abuja would strengthen investor confidence and enhance Nigeria’s attractiveness on the global stage.

“The remodelling of the Abuja City Gate sends a positive message to the international community. It has the potential to significantly boost foreign investors’ confidence and presents Nigeria in a greener and more attractive light. Every nation benefits when its capital reflects order, beauty and development,” he said.

He also welcomed reports of the release of abducted schoolchildren and their teacher, describing the development as encouraging while urging sustained efforts to improve security across the country.

“We thank God for the release of the schoolchildren and their teacher. We appreciate every genuine effort being made to improve the security situation in our country,” he said.

Calling for national unity, Dr Christian-Shola appealed to Nigerians to remain hopeful and support initiatives aimed at promoting peace and development.

“I do not subscribe to the view that President Tinubu is not making efforts. In my opinion, he is an active and listening President who has demonstrated a willingness to confront difficult national challenges,” he said.

He acknowledged that the country’s security challenges require long-term institutional reforms, noting that discussions on strengthening the nation’s security architecture, including enhanced regional policing, should continue.

“Security challenges cannot be solved overnight. These are significant policy issues that require courage, consultation and commitment,” he added.

Following the visit to the City Gate, the SEMACO president visited the New Kuchingoro Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Abuja, where he donated food items to victims of insurgency and pledged continued humanitarian support.

Addressing residents of the camp, Dr Christian-Shola promised regular medical assistance, including drugs for common ailments such as malaria and typhoid. He assured them that members of his organisation would continue to visit the camp even when he was unavailable.

He urged Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion, to remain committed to national unity and work collectively towards building a peaceful, secure and prosperous country.
