The grant agreement, in the amount of 28.558 million EUR, signed between ECOWAS and AFD, will support the establishment of the Regional Food Security Reserve aimed to support the national storage systems in member states and strengthen the local storage capacities.
AFD executes the French government’s development aid policies.
Georges Vanin, Premier conseiller, affaires politiques et communication, Embassy of France, said in a press release that the agreement was signed in the presence of the French Ambassador in Nigeria.
The regional plan was financed through an EU grant of a sum of 17 million EUR and management by AFD.
The statement said Food security remained a major concern for West African leaders.
For this project a total amount of 56 million Euros from the
European Union, has also been delegated to AFD for implementation.
The agreement will support the regional plan for fight and control of Fruit Flies in West Africa to improve fruit and vegetable growers’ incomes and reduce export losses.
