The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, has commenced a three-day technical validation workshop in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, to review and finalise its Strategic Plan 2026 – 2030.
In his opening remarks, Hon Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Goncalves, President of the Court, emphasised its significance.
“This workshop is not simply about reviewing a draft document. It is about ensuring that this plan is realistic, practical, and implementable, …with achievable steps that strengthen our ability to serve the Community,” he said.
He described the Strategic Plan as a ‘tool for regional judicial transformation to reduce delays, strengthen enforcement of judgments, make justice more accessible to citizens, and to build a Court that inspires confidence and trust across the region.’
He urged staff members to take ownership of the process and commit to its implementation.
Dr Olalekan Afolabi, Principal Officer, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, while outlining the objectives and methodology of the workshop highlighted the importance of aligning departmental goals with the Court’s vision and ensuring that the strategies are both inclusive and achievable.
He presented a review of the institutional performance and the strategic framework for the new strategic plan.
The Strategic Plan is built around five strategic goals: delivering justice in a timely and effective manner, expanding access to justice, advancing human rights protection, strengthening institutional capacity of the Court, and enhancing transparency and accountability.
The final document will guide the operations of the Court from 2026 to 2030.
