The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament has called for the introduction of legislative practices and procedures in universities in the sub-region to develop and sustain democratic process in the sub-region.
The Secretary General of the parliament, Dr. Nelson Magbagbeola, made the call in Lagos at four-day training for parliamentary staff in the region.
Magbagbeola said that both the parliament and its staff needed training and retraining for the advancement of democracy in the sub-region.
“We want to encourage universities in the region to come up with curriculum on legislative practices and procedure, because if you look at it West Africa is on democratic process. All the countries in West Africa practise democratic system and it is very important that we get to develop and sustain democratic process,” Magbagbeola said.
