Team Delta has again shown determination to defend its title as it currently tops the medal table at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin, Edo State.
As at Wednesday, Team Delta had amassed 26 medals which include 15 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze.
Following closely behind is Bayelsa who have won 12 goal, 6 silver and 4 bronze bringing their medal haul to 22 just as the host, Edo are third on the table with 25 medals comprising of 3 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze medals.
Kwara have so far picked 1 gold and 1 bronze to place fourth on the table while Kano have 5 medals made up of 4 silver and 1 bronze to place fifth.
Rivers, Lagos, Oyo, Cross River, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Borno and Gombe have earned 3, 2,3 4,2,1,1,3 medals respectively
As the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival enters the sixth day some states like Benue, Kogi, Plateau, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, Ogun, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara are yet to win a medal.
Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod has commended Sports Minister, Sunday Dare on his passion for sports development.
Nimrod stated this when the sports minister paid an unscheduled visit to the volleyball centre at the ongoing sports festival in Benin.
Nimrod said the festival has created an avenue for upcoming and established athletes to showcase their talents after a year of inactive sporting activities.
He said, “The Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare has brought new innovation into the sports sector. You can see that most abandoned programs have been revived and sports is developing rapidly,” he said.
