Another aspirant in the just concluded governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has claimed to be the winner.

Controversy has continued to trail the primary election, with different aspirants laying claim to the party’s ticket. 

The lawmaker, who represents Edo Central senatorial district, said he won the primary election with over 6,000 votes.

Dennis Idahosa, a House of Representatives member, was declared the winner by the primary election committee led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

Also, the returning officers of the party in the LGAs of the state declared Sunday Dekeri, another House of Representatives member, as the winner.

Okpebholo, in a statement on Monday, said Idashoa was the candidate who came close to him with 5,536 votes.

“It is now on record that the total votes scored by me is 12,145 as against my closest rival, Hon. Dennis Idahosa who scored only 5,536,” the senator said.

Okpebholo urged his supporters not to be deterred by rumours from other quarters, saying he was very optimistic that justice would prevail.

He said the situation in Edo APC is “an in-house squabble and should be treated as such”.
