EDO: Engineers decry dearth of acceptable standards

The Nigeria Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) has stressed the need for an acceptable engineering standard for practitioners.

The chairman, Edo State chapter of the institute, Engineer Okezi Kenneth Otomi, made the remarks at a public lecture in Benin yesterday. According to him, having an acceptable engineering standard would help curb incessant building collapse in the country. He said engineering practice relies on borrowed standard from Britain and America 60 years after, adding that the development had created a huge disconnect between what is taught and the actual industry practice.
