The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, of planning to rig the September 21 governorship election using the Edo State Security Network, also known as the vigilante group.
In a statement, Prince Kassim Afegbua, Director of Media for the APC Campaign Council, alerted the public, electorate, and concerned citizens about what he described as the government’s plan to manipulate the election through the illegal use of the Security Network.
“We are aware that the state government has begun producing police and military uniforms for members of the Edo Security Network. These uniforms will be used to impersonate real officers on election day, aiding in their sinister agenda,” he claimed.
Afegbua also noted that some citizens with integrity who were invited to a briefing at the Government House on Monday expressed concerns about this plot and declined the offer to participate.

In response, Governor Godwin Obaseki, in a statement by statement by Crusoe Osagie, his Special Adviser on Media Projects, dismissed the APC’s accusations, claiming they were concocted out of fear of losing the election.
“The APC’s claims are nothing more than a failed attempt to mislead the public and distract from their own plans to rig the election, knowing they have lost the support of the people and cannot win in a fair contest,” Osagie said.
He called on the police, military, and other security agencies to ensure a level playing field, guaranteeing a free, fair, and credible election in Edo State.
