The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the delegate list for the coming Edo State governorship election primary expected to nominate a candidate to fly the party’s flag.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated September 21, 2024, for the governorship poll in the state.
Debo Ologunagba, the national publicity secretary of the party, said the leadership has approved the conduct of the governorship election primary for Thursday, February 22 at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The process leading to the conduct of the party primary has been enmeshed in controversy with nine out of the 10 aspirants accusing the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, of subverting the process in favour of his preferred candidate.
Recently, the nine aspirants led by the deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, threatened legal action against the process, but nothing has been heard from them on that development.
