Ahead of the September 21, governorship in Edo state, the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) has trained women in democratic process

Speaking during the Training the “Trainers Workshop on Continuous Voter Education for Women” in Benin, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NWTF, Brenda Anugwan, said the training was part of efforts geared to advance gender equality in democratic institutions,

She said the workshop underscores the importance of empowering women in democratic process ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the State.

Represented by the team lead of the group, Veneza Udegbe-Gregory, she said investment in women’s civic engagement, will contribute to a more inclusive and representative democracy.

Brenda noted that the participants would be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure that women across communities are not just registered voters but informed and active participants.

“The participants are expected to train other 50 women each to deepen the knowledge in organizations and communities. “Together, we will work towards breaking down barriers that may hinder women’s participation in the electoral process”.

“Your presence here reflects your commitment to advancing the cause of gender equality and strengthening our democratic institutions,” she said.

According to her, the training is in line with the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) programme.

Also speaking. the HOD Voter Education at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin, Timidi Wariowe , said voter education is key to electioneering processes.”
