The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has disclosed that the state lost 150 youths to cultism in five months.
He has however banned the activities of Okaigheles (Youth Leader) in Edo South Senatorial District as part of renewed efforts to tackle cultism in the state.
Obaseki disclosed this in Benin while speaking with journalists after meeting with security chiefs.
He said, “At least 150 persons have been lost to cult-related activities and homicide since January 2024.”
He said his government had declared total war against cultism and had set up a special task force of the Security Council headed by the Director of the Department of State Security (DSS) who will review every cult-related incident in the state.
He added, “From the security management report which was considered in our security meeting, we still have a nagging issue in Edo State which is cultism.”
