Edo: NDLEA arrested 72 drug traffickers in 3 month

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 72 suspected drug traffickers and seized 6,645 kilogram of drugs in three months.

The NDLEA commander, Buba Wakawa, who disclosed this to journalist yesterday, said  the command also destroyed 2.5 hectares of cannabis farms in the period under review.

He however raised alarm over the involvement of school age children in drug trafficking and abuse.

“Out of the 72 suspected traffickers apprehended, 48 are males while 24 are females. The seized drugs include 6,644 kilogramme of cannabis, 401 tablets of Tramadol, 645 tablets of Rophynol, 24 grams of cocaine, 534 grams of Amphetamine and 30 bottles of codeine syrup,” he said.

According to him, some of the destroyed farms were located in Usen and Ugbogui in Ovia South West LGA and Uromi in Esan South West LGA of the state.

Wakawa disclosed that the  command also secured the conviction of two drug dealers, adding that 80 others with drug abuse problem were counseled.
