The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called for increased synergy and collaboration between emergency response stakeholders for effectives flood response and action plan in Edo state.
The NEMA Head of Benin Operation office, Mr Kenoma Ojuedere, made the call in Benin, during a stakeholders meeting to brainstorm on emergency response and preparedness in the state following flood early warning alert.
He said the meeting was conveyed to discuss on flood preparedness and response mechanism with a view to have state flood response or action plan to mitigate the in impending flood in the state.
“This is why we brought stakeholders together to brainstorm, collaborate, put resources and plan together and in the end have a response and action plan that will be effective”.
According to him, they have discovered that emergency stakeholders were doing things individually, noting “If all stakeholders work together as a team, the response will be more effective and result oriented.
The meeting, he said would increase stakeholders readiness and preparedness for disaster management that will ensure that there will be no lost of lives and displaced people
“We want to know what other stakeholders has like ambulances health centers among others because if they are ready before flood disaster, there will be no lost of life”
Ojuedere who noted that inadequate resources, logistics, response vehicles constitute a challenge to emergency response, added “these challenges would be overcome if stakeholders work as team”
He, however, appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to support the state emegency agency in thee area of vehicles and other logistics to be able to response effectively.
On his part, Jerry Idahosa, the Executive Secretary of Edo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) added that it to discuss on the way forward and put measure on ground in preparation for flood in the state.
