Edo Queens emerged Champions of the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super 6 Championship Playoff after they played out a 1-1 draw in their last match with the host side, Bayelsa Queens on Sunday to finish top of the table with 10 points in four matches.

Also, Rivers Angels came 2nd with 9 points after playing 1-1 draw with Heartland Queens of Owerri.

The host, Bayelsa finished 3rd with 9 points but with inferior goals difference, after playing 1-1 draw with the eventual winners of the playoff.

Playing in the last round of matches at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa Emem Essien gave Edo Queens the lead in the 29th minute and a late rally by the Yenagoa ladies who levelled through Zainab Olapade’s well taken free kick outside the box on 72nd minute was not enough to change the outcome of the encounter.

Elsewhere at the Nembe City Stadium in Nembe, Heartland Queens scored a stoppage time goal to spoil the party for Rivers Angels, ending the tie 1-1 in regulation time.

Olamide Adugbe had shot the Port Harcourt girls into the lead in the 72nd minute but Emmanuella James’ strike in the 90th minute was like a dagger to the hearts of Rivers Angels.

In a post-match news conference, an elated Coach of Edo Queens, Moses Aduku, said he was excited his girls clinched the title, promising to give Nigeria a befitting representation at the West Africa Football Union, WAFU Zone B tournament and ultimately the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Goal scorer for Edo Queens, Emem Essien said she was delighted that she helped her team to emerge champions of the highly contested title deciding tournament.
