The new Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adeboye, has warned cultists disturbing the peace of the state to leave or face the full weight of the law.

The commissioner also warned officers and men of the command to stay away from corruption and other infractions while carrying out their duty as whoever caught would face the full weight of the law.

Speaking when he assumed duty as the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adeboye said his administration would be propelled by democratic policing and fear of God.

“Cultism is a dangerous trend which we are ready to curb. The Inspector General of Police has resolved that this menace of cultism should be curbed without reservation and Governor Godwin Obaseki is on the same page with the police’s resolve on cultism,” he said.

He warned that the police would not fold its hands to allow cult groups, whether Eiye, Black Axe or whatever confraternity to dent the image of this administration in state.

He said his main priority as commissioner is to put an end to cultism in the state through lawful means.

 Adeboye advised parents and guardians to warn their children to desist from cultism as those disturbing the peace of the public are going to be apprehended and diligently prosecuted.

CP Adeboye seeks the cooperation of the judiciary so that people arrested for contravening the law would not go unpunished.           

While calling on the public to give useful information to the police to nip crime in the bud, he however called on the media to support the police in their fight against crime.

CP Adeboye took over from CP Dankwara Muhammed who is posted to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
