Edo receives National Sports Festival torch

The Edo State Government has received the torch of Unity for the 22nd National Sports Festival slated for  May 16 to 30, 2025 in Ogun state.

Receiving the touch from the team lead of the National Sports Commission delegation, Mbora Ikana, in Benin yesterday, Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, commended President Bola Tinubu, for transforming the sports sector, uniting the people, and rekindling hopes among the Nigerian youths.

Idahosa who expressed optimism on the outcome of the National Sports Festival, said with the magnitude of investment and commitment by governor Okpebholo-led administration in revamping the state’s sports sector, he was sure that the Edo team would make Edo people proud.

“For us in Edo, we are ready to support our Sports Commission to win medals and we are very sure that they are going to come home top position” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Amadin, assured of the state’s preparedness to emerge victorious in the forthcoming National Sports Festival.

“The last sports festival we came  third, but this time around, the governor has given us the support that we need. So, Edo State is going to come out top in the festival”.  Amadin said.

On his part, the team lead for the Festival Torch  Mbora Ikana, said  the essence of the torch is to invite the state to the festival and to create awareness that sport is the only unifying platform in our country.
