The Edo Government has ordered the reopening of schools that were temporarily shut down in the State over security concerns.

Recall that the state government had ordered the temporary closure of some schools in a statement dated June 9, 2026, due to intelligence reports of possible security threats in parts of Edo North Senatorial District.

The government, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, directed the  affected schools to resume academic activities on June 15, 2026.

Otamere said, “The decision to reopen the schools followed a comprehensive review of the security situation by the state government in collaboration with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders.”

The statement added that  enhanced security measures had been implemented while additional safety mechanisms were deployed across the affected communities and schools to guarantee the safety of learners, teachers and other school personnel.

The statement added, “Consequently, all public and private schools affected by the earlier closure order have been directed to resume normal academic and administrative activities from June 15.”

It directed school heads, proprietors and education authorities to make adequate preparations for the safe return of students and staff, while maintaining close collaboration with security agencies, community leaders and government officials to sustain a secure learning environment.

It, however, urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards return to school to continue their academic activities, assuring that measures had been deployed for the safety of the schools.
