Pupils of Don Bosco Science Academy, Ekpoma, Edo State have emerged overall winner of the 2019 Seplat Petroleum Development Company’s Pearls quiz competition with a cash prize of N7 million.
Don Bosco Science Academy won with 74 point; while Peniel Academy Agbor and Deeper Life High School Opete emerged second and third with 69 and 58 points respectively.
The Chief Executive Officer of Seplat, Mr. Austin Avuru, said the quiz which is opened to Edo and Delta states was meant to improve the academic standard of both states.
Represented by the General Manager Chima Njoku, he said the overall winning school received N7 million, the first runner-up N3 million, second-runner-up N1 million while students and teachers were rewarded with laptops, cash prizes, and learning materials, including stationeries.
He said Seplant, through the competition, has provided scholarships to 63 students, implemented projects valued at over N30 million in more than eight schools as well as given out four 16-seater buses since inception in 2012.
Also speaking, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Jimoh Ijegbai, commended Seplat for instituting and sustaining the competition, saying his administration is willing to partner organisations to improve the standard of education in the state.
