Aggrieved members of Edo State Market Women Association and Traders Welfare Union has called for the sack of its leadership led by Blacky Ogiamien, accusing her of corruption.
The members made the demand during a peaceful protest to the Oba of Benin’s palace.
The protesters alleged that the union’s leadership is behind the increase in price of foodstuffs across markets in the state.
Speaking for the protesters, the spokesperson for Edo Traders Welfare Union, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, called for the removal of the association’s leadership, over alleged high handedness and failure to account for finances of the association.

Orukpe alleged that the finances include N1 million donated to the association by Senator Adams Oshiomhole during his tenure as governor of the state years ago, which the leadership is yet to account for.
On her part, Mrs Patience Asuen, said members had passed ‘no confidence vote’ on its leadership, prompting them to seek the intervention of the Oba of Benin.
Responding on behalf of the Benin Palace, Chief Isaac Oghafua Oyeoba, the Oyeoba of Benin, assured the protesters that the Oba of Benin, who is the life patron of the union, would ensure that justice is served.
He cautioned the protesters against violence.
Recall that Blacky Ogiamien, had earlier, led a procession of traditional worshippers in Benin and swore at some shrines, asking the ancestral spirits to bear her witness over the allegations levelled against her.
She denied the allegations, saying the protesters are out to blackmail her.
