I knew late Ugbagwu as a very disciplined and mature journalist. He had interviewed me on a number of occasions. To the best of my knowledge his death constitutes a serious loss to the practice of his noble profession and is a depletion of the ranks of courageous journalists.

The police must fish out his killers and come out with a coherent and sensible explanation that will help us put an end to what is turning out to be a routine way of life in this country. By way of elaboration, the state of emergency would go beyond sacking or replacing commissioners of police and directors of SSS etc. Of course, that would be part of the package, but extend to structuring militia men and women into our policing system. It is scary that lives can just be wasted like that without any consequence. It is indeed a miracle that we manage to sleep and close our eyes in this country. The incompetence of the security forces and of our government on security stinks to high heavens.
