The Edo State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Auchi, has flagged off a three-day free medical outreach for children between the ages of zero and 10 in its host community.

City & Crime reports that the free medical treatment taking place in the hospital is part of a week-long activities marking the fifth convocation ceremony of the university.

Flagging off the treatment, the Edo State Head of Service (HOS), Anthony Okungbowa, noted that the health and wellbeing of children were crucial to the university and the state government.

Represented by the Chairperson of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, Dr Ndoka Imoisili, Okungbowa, said, “We are aware that many children in our community face various health challenges due to financial constraints or lack of medical facilities. So, this medical outreach is to bridge the gap and provide medical services to those who need it the most.”

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof Emmanuel Aluyor, who described the free treatment as part of the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), said the outreach would provide a platform for the children to receive comprehensive medical care, preventive measures and interventions in making sure that every child regardless of circumstances or background had the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof Idogun E, said the hospital now had a paediatric complex where children were treated by trained paediatricians.
