Edochie was honoured the ‘Igbo Person of The Year, 2012’ while actress Ozokwor received the ‘2012 Most Outstanding Motion Picture Personality Award.’ When the tusk was presented to Edochie, by the Ohanaeze secretary general, Dr. Joe Nwrogu, there were many earth-shaking cannon shots that saluted the actor who is also popularly called Ebubedike of Igboland.
Popular police sports woman and the 2006 Commonwealth Olympics gold medallist, Chief (Mrs.) Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara was honoured with the ‘All Time Igbo Sport Personality Award’ and the chairman, Peace Mass Transit Ltd, Dr. Sam Maduka Onyishi, received the ‘Most Creative Business Personality of the Year 2012 Award.’
Both Edochie and notable comedian, Chief Chika Okpala alias Zebrudaya of the defunct ‘New Masquerade’ series, emphasised the need for the Igbo people to continue to speak Igbo fluently and also to teach their children how to speak and be proud of their language.
Ozokwor in her remarks assured that: “wherever I go and whatever I do I will always bear in mind that I am an Igbo woman, and so I will continue to be a good ambassador of our people.” She asked the audience to thank Zebrudaya because he was the first person that discovered her acting skill and inspired her into the entertainment business.
Other personalities honoured were governors Theodore Orji of Abia State as the ‘Most Prudent Manager of Human Resources, 2012 Public Service’ and his Delta State counterpart, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as ‘Ndigbo Most Friendly Governor, 2012’. Also honoured were television presenters, Kingsley Ahamefula Nickduru as ‘TV Presenter of The Year, 2012’ (Ojemba programme on AIT) and Amechi Obiora Kenneth, ‘Radio Presenter of The Year, 2012’ (Ode Jim-Jim programme on Ray Power FM.
