Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris Maiyaki, are expected as special guests of honor at the 2024 Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria (IELPN) international conference.

Briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja ahead of the conference billed for August 14-15, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the institute, Dr Taiwo Olufunmilayo Olusa, said the conference will focus on project-based and experiential learning to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills for students in the 21st century.

Dr Olusa said, “Mindfulness leadership and team-building driven decision-making for education leaders, sustainable education leadership, cybersecurity in educational institutions, and equity and inclusion in education” are among the topics to be covered.

She explained that the conference theme, “Revolutionizing Education: Harnessing Innovative Pedagogies and Leadership for 21st Century Students,” emphasizes the importance of leadership development in education.

“We believe that effective leadership is essential for student success,” she said.

“In this conference, we’ll focus on equipping teachers and instructors, who have the closest relationships with students, with the knowledge and skills to be effective mentors.”

She said the conference aims to improve the overall well-being of students by providing professional development opportunities for educators and policymakers.

“By equipping teachers with the latest knowledge and strategies, we can ensure students have a better understanding of the subjects they are learning,” Dr Olusa said.

“This will empower them to use their knowledge to benefit themselves and their communities.”

The institute urged educational organizations to send staff to the conference to benefit from professional development opportunities.
