The leadership of Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF) has condemned the spate of insecurity and abductions of  schoolchildren in Northern Nigeria saying the kidnappings are indications that education in the region is under attack.

The President of the Forum, Comrade Abdulsalam Mohammed Kazeem, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to act brutally on all those with links to insecurity and also sanction heads of security agencies in any state with a record of mass abductions or kidnapping.

Kazeem, in a press statement issued in Kaduna said: “It is unbelievable to find out that despite our huge security budget, the current trend of insecurity is threatening our educational system and curriculum.”

“The president should close his eyes to pity now and act brutally on all those who the administration claims to be on its watch list over their links to security related matters now.

“We, as a forum, passionately appeal to the federal government to sanction heads of security agencies in any state/region with a record of mass abductions or kidnapping, that will further prove to the citizenry that it is no longer business as usual,” they stated.

They called for synergy amongst security agencies, local vigilantes and other relevant government agencies in order to find a lasting solution to the multiple security challenges.
