This comes after a dinner Monday night to raise N25 billion for the proposed Edwin Kiagbodo Clark University, named after the elder statesman Edwin Clark.
If the license for the university is approved by the Federal Executive Council, Nigeria’s private universities will rise to 51.
The university is expected to start with two faculties, 10 departments and fifteen undergraduate courses in the first year-sciences and management sciences.
Engineering and environment technology faculty are expected to start seven programmes each in the sixth year, along with six more programmes in sciences and management sciences.
Six departments in agriculture are not expected till the 17th year of the school.
It will train “technology professionals grounded in theory and also equipped with relevant hands-on and life skills for leadership, entrepreneurship and work for sustainable development,” said the foundation.
The founder of the university, Chief Edwin K Clark said he chose to establish it because it is the best legacy he can leave behind.
“I had always thought of an education as the best legacy. This applies all over the country, generally, but, particularly, in the parts of the country where these institutions of Edwin Kiagbodo Clark Foundation are to be established.
“I must say that the need for technologists and scientists is even more now. Technology is ruling the world today and that is why countries like Japan, China, etc are quickly moving to the drivers’ seat, to join nations that drive the world economy.
The Foundations’ institutions will serve all Nigerians, indeed all humanity who hunger for high quality technology-based educational instruction and academic work environment. This has been the source of my strength for this venture,” he said.
