Speaking with Daily Trust in Calabar, Nyong said that the campaign was under their flagship programme titled ‘Mass Action for Environmental Sustainability, Sanitation and Hygiene (MAESSAH).
He said the campaign will consist of education presentation to assist in combating the ‘enormous’ environmental problems ravaging most parts of the state.
 “We are aware that the state and local governments cannot alone contain the magnitude of these enormous environmental dangers.
 “We are therefore currently recruiting and training youths across the 18 LGAs of Cross River State including other states in Nigeria as environmental marshals to help carry out among other tasks, environmental ethics and safety education, surveillance, and enforcement,” he said.
To complement their campaign, he said they have also formed ‘New Centenary Cleaner Environment Campaign group with the theme ‘Be Ethical, Be Centenary Clean’. He said this was formally flagged off in Abuja last February.
 Nyong lamented that not many youths were however interested in the ongoing recruitment and training in Cross River State. “The response in Cross River State has not been encouraging due to the fact that the campaign programme is envisaged to absorb a minimum of 600 youths in gender equity per state,” he explained.
 He disclosed that the EESC has already deployed environmental marshals to various government agencies but none yet in the state and appealed to the state government to assist it in the formal launch of MAESSAH projects I and II.
