EFCC arrests four over diversion of petroleum product in Kano

Four people have been arrested in Kano by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged conspiracy, economic sabotage and diversion of 55,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth over N4.7m.
The suspects, Musbahu Garba, Goje Ezekiel, Ali Musa and Anas Abubakar were discovered by an operative of the commission who was on a routine surveillance of petrol stations in some parts of the state.
The operative observed a tanker with registration number AGL 837 XH belonging to Total Nigeria Plc discharging 55,000 litres of PMS into a petrol dump of one Challawa Oil and Gas Ltd located at Abasawa, a suburb of Kano metropolis.
Upon investigation it was discovered that the product was loaded in Lagos on February 25 and got to Kano on March 4, 2016 where necessary documentations were reportedly carried out at NNPC Deport, Kano to enable Total (the owner of the product) to access Petroleum Equalization and Bridging funds.
The commission said manifest from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Kano Depot also revealed that the product was expected to be discharged at Beha Tech Filling Station in Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi state but was diverted to Challawa Oil and Gas in Kano.
According to statement made available to newsmen, investigation was still in progress and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion.
