It is interesting to see former governors and public officials being held for misappropriating public funds with the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Wednesday remanding a former governor of the state, Ramalan Yero and three others including Nuhu Way; a former secretary to the state government, Hamza Danma’awuyi; and a former People’s Democratic Party chairman in the state, Abubakar Haruna, in prison after they were docked by the EFCC. This followed that of other former governors. A former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, was also recently jailed 14 years by an Abuja court. And ex-governor, Jonah Jang of Plateau State, was recently released after spending about one week in prison. Could these mean the mighty are now falling for their misdeeds in office courtesy EFCC?

Let Peace Corps supporters know its bounds

It sounds rather funny that even after the president rejected the Peace Corps Bill and the House of Representatives dropped further proceedings on it, some people are still stumbling over the prospect of pushing it further. It is important for them to know that Peace Corps can still exist, albeit as a Non-Governmental Organisation that it is. Therefore, the members and die-hard supporters of the bill should endeavor to confine their ambitions within the ambit of its statutory limitations and stop pestering the president and other authorities until such a time it gets another life line. Peace corps belongs in the same group as the Boys Scout, Boys Brigade, Man-O-War-all voluntary organisations and NOT security agencies or combatant forces as Peace Corps members want to parade themselves.

Go, Super Eagles, go

I write to sincerely wish our dear national football team, the Super Eagles, the very best in next month’s World Cup in Russia. Though we know it would be an uphill task for an African team to lift the world cup given every variable, we hope we can get better this time around by at least progressing beyond the second round of the tournament. We should be prepared for wrong administrative and officiating decisions which had marred our past participations and only wish our team the best of luck.

Zidane quitting when ovation is loudest

I am pleased to hear that after guiding Real Madrid to three successive Champions League titles and one La Liga triumph, Zinedine Zidane has resigned as Real Madrid coach. After winning an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League trophies in 2016, 2017 and 2018, I am sure Zidane is leaving with his head very high, and that is what I like-leaving when the ovation is loudest, not waiting to be eased out in disgrace. Other sportsmen (eg; aging boxers), coaches and administrators should please borrow a leaf from Zidane.
