The commission, in a statement signed by its spokesman Femi Babafemi on Friday October 7, 2011 explained that it came to the decision of publicly declaring the accused person wanted after an endless search for him and his failure to submit himself for interrogation over the alleged fraud.

The statement maintains that, despite being in receipt of a letter of invitation giving him up to 12 noon on Friday to come out of his hiding, the former governor is still at large. According to the statement, “Patriotic Nigerians who may have useful information on the whereabouts of the wanted person are urged to kindly send same to any of the EFCC’s offices across the country or the nearest police station.”

Babafemi added: “While [EFCC] will continue its search for the accused person, it will always work within the law in the discharge of its responsibility and expects all citizens especially those being investigated to respect and obey the laws of the land.”

Phone calls to the former Gombe State governor were not answered.

Following the arrest of former Governor Gbenja Daniels of Ogun State, Aloa Akala of Oyo State and Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State, the search for Goje confirms speculations that the EFCC was poised to arrest the four former governors after getting the go-ahead to prosecute them by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
