EFCC humiliating Jonathan over wife’s $15.5m probe – CSOs

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has said the decision of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the $15. 5 million belonging to the former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, was aimed at humiliating her husband, former president Goodluck Jonathan.

The CSOs also appealed to the National Assembly to review the act establishing the EFCC, saying if reviewed, it would not only give the commission’s prosecution a sound presentation but also win it a favourable judgment at the courts.

A statement signed yesterday by leaders of 23 CSOs led by Ali Abacha, said Jonathan had been silent over the case against his wife because he doesn’t want to overheat the polity and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s change agenda.

The CSOs which said no Nigerian former first lady had been treated in such manner described the act as “persecution” and appealed to the president to intervene in order to defreeze Patience’s bank account.
