Effective regulation crucial to Nigeria’s $200m VAS market – Operators

Wireless Applications Service Providers Association of Nigeria (WASPAN) said collaboration is also important to achieve a well coordinated VAS market in Nigeria.
The $200 million VAS segment is expected to reach $500 million in the next few years if only its potentials are properly harnessed.
According to the coordinating Consultant for WASPAN, Mr. Simon Aderinlola, effective regulation should target fostering an enabling environment for the VAS operators to run the industry professionally.
He said there is huge benefits for all stakeholders in the telecoms industry if VAS or mVAS are run and overseen properly.
He said, “In order for 2015 not to mirror the drawbacks of 2014, the three key industry players – telecom operators, WASPs and NCC – need to start sharing thoughts among themselves as each party seems to yet have a different world view about how to make things work better.”
Aderinola stated that what the Nigerian mVAS realm needs at present is to have, at least, the three parties engage in actionable conversation for a start.
