The prevalent difficult transportation problems that residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are confronted with were highlighted in Thursday’s edition of the Daily Trust newspaper of January 2, 2020. The report, which was published on the front page of the paper, attracted a lot of attention because of its sensitiveness.

The FCT minister and his team of experts should, therefore, quickly approach the National Assembly for the formulation of a sustainable transport policy for Abuja without further delay; it is needed urgently.

Such policy will help to ameliorate the difficulties being encountered presently by the lower class of people in Abuja at motor parks, trains, or even at the airport.

Due to ineffective transport system, commuters usually find it difficult to get to their destinations.

However, I commend the Federal Capital Territory Administration for allowing tricycle owners to once again operate in Abuja, though at designated areas. People who patronise the tricycles and motorcycles, like yours sincerely, are very large in number in Abuja, so strictly enforcing the ban on such means of transportation is anti-people.

Abuja has reached a stage where a comprehensive transport policy is not only a necessity but should become an integral aspect of the city’s economic development. It will help to reduce poverty and bring about prosperity as it will create opportunities for our jobless youths.

On this note, let me repeat that a quick action on this matter is needed. Our transportation system must be fixed for the good of the people and the FCT.
