Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development as it celebrated the 10th edition of its annual scholarship awards.
The ceremony, held at the Egbin Power Clubhouse in Lagos, brought together community leaders, parents, teachers, the company’s management, and beneficiaries to mark a decade of supporting academic excellence in host communities.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, said the scholarship programme had become more than a corporate social responsibility initiative.
According to him, it represents a strong bond between the company and its host communities.
“This 10th edition of the Egbin Power Scholarship reaffirms our decade-long commitment to education and community development. By investing in these young scholars, we are not only empowering their future but also strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth in our host communities and Nigeria at large,” he said.

Bounour added that the programme, introduced in 2015, had transformed lives by easing the financial burden on parents while creating access to quality education. He noted that the scheme also provides mentorship and a scholarship bootcamp to equip beneficiaries with life skills and confidence.
Parents and students expressed appreciation to the company for sustaining the initiative. Mrs. Ebuzome Ekene, a parent, said the scholarship had lifted a burden from many families. “Beyond the financial relief, it gives our children the confidence to aim higher, knowing that their community and Egbin stand solidly behind them,” she said.
A student beneficiary, Kareem Opeyemi, described the award as a motivation to excel. “This scholarship motivates me to study harder and become a future leader who will make my community proud,” he said.
Egbin Power said the 10th edition of the awards, which concluded with the selection of new beneficiaries, reinforced its pledge to continue investing in initiatives that uplift lives and create lasting value for society.
The company added that its corporate social responsibility projects span education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and infrastructure, further demonstrating that its role goes beyond power generation to include empowering people and developing communities.
