Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in forward Sadiq Umar to come good for the national team.

Speaking during a press conference, Eguavoen, who was named the best coach of the group stage, said he had a lengthy chat with the player and advised him on how to approach his game going forward.

It will be recalled that Umar started the last group game against Guinea-Bissau and missed a couple of chances before scoring his first AFCON goal.

“Yes I had a long time talking to him in our training yesterday. I told him to remain calm and assured him of my belief in him. Sadiq has scored a good number of goals for his club side and I reminded him that his primary duty is to score goals or create assists. I believe Sadiq is an important part of this team”

“We have a lot of confidence in him. He has been scoring goals for the clubs he has played for. This is the national team on a big stage. He should look at assists before he scores. I told him if he has the chance to score, he should take but if not, he should pass,” he said.

He further said he has no preference for any player as he is certain any of them will deliver when called up.
