Seven-time winners, Egypt will meet North African rivals, Morocco in one of the quarter-finals clashes at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

After 0-0 in regulation and extra-time, the Round of 16 match played yesternight at the Japoma Stadium in Douala went into penalties where the Pharaohs defeated Ivory coast 5-4 to move to the next stage.

Before disaster struck for the Elephants, eight of the 10 kicks were successfully executed but when it got to the turn of Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, he failed to find the back of the net making way for Liverpool dangerman Mo Salah to slam home the final kick to take Egypt to the quarter-finals.

The victory has kept the Pharaohs hopes of an eighth AFCON title alive. They presently hold the record of the highest number of AFCON titles which is seven.

Egypt’s quarterfinal showdown with Morocco will be staged in Yaounde on Sunday, January 30.

Meanwhile, favourites Mali were also edged out by less fancied Equatorial Guinea 6-5 on penalties after 0-0 in regulation and extra time.
